Testing Your Website for Accessibility
The Office of Digital Access hosted a workshop titled Testing Your Website for Accessibility on January 26, 2018, from 11 am to 12:30 pm at 206 Durham Center. You can find the presentation here. The workshop focused on testing and making sure all the content in your website is accessible to all kinds of users.
Tip of the Month: PDF Accessibility Checker
It is important to make pdfs accessible because persons with visual disabilities may use screen readers to read through them. Screen readers can only properly read pdfs that are tagged and have required metadata embedded.
In previous newsletters, and in our website, we have talked about how to make pdfs accessible. This tip is about how to check the accessibility of the pdf document using external tools. There are many online free tools available. For example, Free PDF Accessibility Checker (PAC2) and PAVE. Unlike PAC2, PAVE automatically corrects errors once you upload the pdf file. You can also make manual corrections by simply following the instructions on the screen. Once you are done, simply download the pdf document.
If you have any news or tips you would like to share or want to schedule a consultation, training or assessment, please contact the WAC (Web Accessibility Coordinator) Dr. Zayira Jordan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
